Managing Ill, Injured & Absent Employees

One of the most difficult situations for an employer or HR Manager to manage, is dealing with employees who are temporarily absent from work due to illness, injury, stress or WorkCover claims.  In this workshop, we will hear practical strategies and advice from Senior IR Consultant, Joanne Barrett on what an employer can and can't do to support and manage these employees to ensure legal compliance and commercial outcomes. We will also hear from Senior Psychologist Kelly Maniatis to discuss the behavioural issues associated with stress.

The key topics covered in this workshop are:

  • Psychological Injuries and Stress - What are they? How to they arise?
  • WorkCover Claims - processes to follow for HR Managers and supervisors.
  • Evidence of the illness and incapacity - What can the employer ask for?
  • Liaising with Family and Medical professionals - privacy issues.
  • Dismissing Injured and Ill Employees - What are the risks and options?
  • Potential legal claims - What constitutes Discrimination and/or Adverse Action?
  • Return to Work Plans - making them work in practice.
  • Employee Assistance Programs and how they can help.
  • Supporting your other staff and managers.

This workshop will be targeted at HR Managers and other Senior Managers who may need to manage and resolve these situations. Help your business leaders to be better equipped to handle these difficult situations which are on the rise in Australian workplaces.
